Monday, January 23, 2012

This Monday, January 23, 2012, is the new moon and the Chinese New Year celebration. This is a good day to give children crisp new dollar bills in a red envelope for good fortune.

The weather for the US, as reported by Dutchsince, includes warnings of severe weather for the southern sections of the US. Dutch mentions tornadoes, and reminders to have emergency plans, such as food, water, extra clothing, and alternative places to stay.

For national news, the Republicans searching for a presidential candidate remain in upheaval. The Republican primary in Iowa is now moot. As noted by CNN, Iowa officials were unable to collect all the votes.

As noted by Alexander Higgins in his article "Newt Gingrich Suspiciously Declared South Carolina GOP Primary Winner," in South Carolina, Republican officials announced that Newt Gingrich won, when only 2% of the votes had been counted.

Along with the Iowa snafu, it appears that the Republicans are unable to run a clean, transparent process to select a presidental candidate.
